Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla commented on UC San Diego's impressive ranking, emphasizing the importance of pioneering research and innovation efforts to address the world's most pressing challenges. The university has a large annual research fund, amounting to a $1.76 billion enterprise, making it an instrumental institution in the progress of various fields, from political science to chemistry, as well as computer science and physics. In Clarivate's most recent list of Highly Cited Researchers, the university achieved 66 individual distinctions, a significant increase from 51 distinctions in the previous year, according to UC San Diego Today.
As a testament to UC San Diego's impact on the global academic sphere, Clarivate also recognized the university as one of the top 10 most cited institutions worldwide. Notable faculty members include Uri Gneezy, Jacqueline Kerr, and Rob Knight, who are all regarded as exceptional researchers in their respective fields. Knight, in particular, has earned a reputation for award-winning research in human microbes and is ranked in the top 1% of the most Highly Cited Researchers in the world by Clarivate.
