The Boston-based U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts has indicted 26-year-old Karyela Santiago, a Springfield woman, who allegedly possessed fentanyl intended for distribution.
On March 30, 2022, Santiago was accused of attempting to distribute fentanyl. She now faces the possibility of up to 20 years in prison, four years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million if found guilty.
Unfortunately, this is not Santiago's first run-in with police.
In fact, Hoodline Boston reviewed an arrest record from the Springfield, MA Police Department showing that Santiago had previously been apprehended back on September 22, 2018.
At that time, she was charged with vandalizing property, as well as breaking and entering a building at night with the intention of committing a felony.
Santiago's history with the law might complicate her legal situation regarding her most recent actions.
