According to the Alameda Police Department's Facebook post, APD officers were dispatched to Stardust Place for a trespassing report, only to find two individuals barricaded inside a vehicle on private property. The situation quickly became complicated when officers learned that the adult male involved had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence, and the other individual in the vehicle appeared to be held against their will. Since officers couldn't see inside the car, they were unsure of the safety of all parties, necessitating the involvement of specialists.
Enter the Alameda Police Department's Critical Incident Response Team (CIR), which included specially trained crisis negotiators who brought the much-needed expertise and skills to defuse the situation safely. Along with additional support from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office and the Alameda Fire Department Tactical Medics, discussing with a barricaded suspect became a feasible option. It is worth noting that, despite the unpredictable nature of the problem, the officers maintained their composure and took the time to truly understand the circumstances at hand.
Seven hours later, the negotiation process paid off. The adult male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for trespassing, outstanding warrants, and a restraining order violation.
