The persistent issue of violence in Chicago reared its ugly head yet again with the brutal beating of an innocent 11-year-old girl in the North Lawndale neighborhood. Yesterday, around 8:45 pm, the girl found herself in a horrifying situation where she was violently attacked by two individuals. The ordeal transpired in the 1900 block of South Spaulding Avenue.
According to Chicago Sun-Times, the young girl was outside when an attacker approached her, striking her with an unknown object. A second attacker proceeded to batter her further. It was not until a good Samaritan intervened that the violence was finally stopped, both physically and emotionally.
At the time of writing, it has been reported by WGN-TV that the girl has been transported to Lurie Children's Hospital, though her condition and injuries are unknown. The courage displayed by the individual who intervened in this instance demonstrates both the fortitude of the local community and serves as a stark reminder there lies within the human condition a code of decency that can be called upon within trying situations.
As previously mentioned WGN-TV, no arrests have been made, and investigators from Area Four Detectives are lending their expertise to the case.
