Local law enforcement has reported at least five different armed robberies occurring overnight in several city neighborhoods, including one instance where retail employees were tied up at gunpoint according to NBC Chicago.
The first incident of this dangerous night took place at 7:57 p.m. inside an AT&T store in the 1700 block of West Fullerton, close to the Bucktown neighborhood. Two armed suspects entered the store and forced the employees' hands into zip ties before seizing cell phones and other electronic items and fleeing in a white SUV. Following that, similar incidents occurred throughout the night in a multitude of locations, from the 3000 block of West Carroll in Garfield Park to the 3500 block of North Kimball in Irving Park. As documented by ABC7 Chicago, wallets, cell phones, backpacks, and other valuable possessions were taken by force as the criminals targeted unsuspecting individuals.
The Chicago Police have not yet determined any connection between these incidents, but reports indicate that in each case, two to three male suspects armed with guns demanded property and escaped in an SUV. Despite the troubling events, it appears that none of the victims were injured.
Parallel to these violent robberies, another incident unfolded on Monday afternoon in broad daylight in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. According to police, a 33-year-old man was brutally assaulted from behind, beaten to the ground, and robbed of his personal belongings. The attackers promptly fled the scene and yet remain at large.
