A shocking carjacking took place yesterday, when a woman in Piedmont, California, became the unsuspecting target of thieves as she was securing her baby into a car seat. According to SFGate, the two male suspects demanded the victim's purse, wallet, and car keys. They allowed the woman to hastily remove her child from the black 2018 BMW before driving off with the stolen vehicle.

As Henry K. Lee reported on Twitter, the suspects were in a newer, green four-door BMW. The desperate scenario left the mother and her child unharmed but undoubtedly shaken. As the day progressed, law enforcement agencies collaborated to bring the unsettling event to a conclusion.

In a commendable display of teamwork, the Piedmont Police Department partnered with BMW to rapidly track the stolen vehicle. As the Community Crime Alert noted, California Highway Patrol’s helicopter unit joined the effort. They were able to follow the car to several locations in Oakland throughout the day.

By 4 p.m., the CHP Air Unit located the stolen BMW on International Avenue in Oakland, acting swiftly with the assistance of Oakland Police. A total of five individuals were detained at the scene. Piedmont officers identified and released four of them, while a 19-year-old male from Rodeo was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail on charges of carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle.
