Today, the city of Carlsbad announced the commencement of construction along Avenida Encinas from Carlsbad Boulevard to Poinsettia Coaster Station. According to Nextdoor, the project is aimed at enhancing bike and pedestrian access, as well as improving buffered bike lanes, crosswalks, and supporting safer vehicle speeds.
This much-needed construction is part of the regionwide Coastal Rail Trail project, ensuring the safety of all modes of transportation, as stated in an article by the City of Carlsbad. The project is scheduled to last from September 2023 to spring 2024, with work commencing at Carlsbad Boulevard and moving north.
While these improvements are sure to positively impact the community, some disruptions should be expected during the construction process. Traffic control measures will be implemented, affecting both bike and car lanes. Motorists and cyclists are urged to exercise caution in the area and to share the road.
Street parking may be restricted, and residents are advised to expect occasionally limited access to homes and businesses. Furthermore, the presence of construction equipment in the area may cause noise and dust disturbances, but crews will actively work to minimize such inconveniences.
During the construction, the public is advised to avoid driving, walking, or biking on newly resurfaced streets until signs are removed. Additionally, door hanger notifications will be placed at nearby homes and businesses to inform residents of impending construction activities.
