
Earlier this morning, a tragic accident unfolded on Interstate 805 in San Ysidro, claiming the life of a 58-year-old Tijuana man and resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old Escondido man on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). The victim was driving his Honda SUV when he was rear-ended by the suspect's Volkswagen coupe, causing fatal injuries. The name of the victim has not yet been released. The alleged DUI driver was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries before being apprehended by authorities, according to 10news.
As reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Jesse Matias said that the suspect had been driving at an exceedingly high speed at the time of the crash, which occurred near state Route 905. The incident prompted the closure of multiple lanes on north I-805 during an on-scene investigation, lasting until approximately 1 p.m. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information on this tragic accident to contact the CHP at 858-293-6000.
