The MSPCA-Angell aims to shift the narrative surrounding the humble mouse. Often perceived as vermin or in some cases, expendable food sources, these tiny mammals are frequently snubbed as the household pets they can be. In response, MSPCA-Angell is holding a Mouse-a-Palooza adoption event on September 9th and 10th, seeking to find forever homes for 250 mice.
The adoption fees have been waived for this incredible event as a result of a massive surrender of over 500 mice in Essex County. MSPCA-Angell Assistant Director of Adoption Centers and Programs, Bryn Rogers, is quoted as saying, "We're hoping we can do the impossible — find homes for 250 mice in just two days", as reported on NBC Boston.
To sweeten the deal, not only will the usual adoption fee of $15 be waived, but the organization is also offering free starter kits to the first 75 adopters. These kits, valued at $60, include essential items such as a tank, bedding, bottles, bowls, and a mouse hut, per WPRI.
In addition to the minimal time commitment required for their care, mice can be surprisingly interactive pets and social companions. They are naturally curious and quite comfortable with humans, as long as they are handled gently and consistently according to information provided by NBC Boston. They also thrive in group settings, further emphasizing their compatibility with potential adopters searching for small but sociable pets that will interact with both their human caretakers and fellow mice.
The Mouse-a-Palooza adoption event offers a prime opportunity to celebrate the endearing qualities of these small mammals and support the valuable work of organizations like MSPCA-Angell in spreading awareness for their cause and helping to place them in loving forever homes.
Those interested in participating in this unique adoption event can RSVP via the MSPCA-Angell website or simply show up ready to welcome a new tiny addition or two to their homes. The event will take place at MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
