Update: The El Cerrito Fire Department would like to inform the communities of Kensington and El Cerrito that the Shelter in Place order for Zones ECK-E007 and E008 has been lifted. It is now safe for residents in these areas to resume their regular activities. 

Today, Kensington and El Cerrito authorities alerted residents of a pervasive gas leak in the area, prompting an immediate shelter-in-place order. 

The El Cerrito Fire Department was quick to act, issuing a public announcement by urging those in Zones ECK-E007 and E008, which include parts of Kensington and El Cerrito, to find safe refuge and to quickly abide by the shelter-in-place order. Residents were instructed to avoid using the phone for non-life-threatening emergencies and to remain indoors, with closed doors and windows, until further notice.
