According to the City of Hayward, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, a fatal hit and run collision at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Orchard Avenue involving a vehicle and a bicyclist occured. The authorities are still searching for the driver responsible for the tragic accident.
As reported by the City of Hayward, officers arrived at the scene around 5:36 p.m. and found the 55-year-old male bicyclist unconscious and severely injured. The man was quickly transported to a local medical facility, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. With formal identification protocols still underway by the Alameda County Coroner's Office, the bicyclist's identity remains unreleased at this time.
The vehicle believed to be involved was described as a gray, early to mid 2000's model Mercedes E350 with silver five spoke rims, as shown in the photograph provided by the City of Hayward. The vehicle likely has major front-end passenger side damage, which alongside its disregard for human life, left the scene at a high rate of speed before the arrival of law enforcement officers. The perpetrator remains at large, and authorities believe the driver was the sole occupant inside the car at the time of the collision.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues as the Hayward Police Department diligently works to locate the driver responsible for this heinous act. The search has yielded a few pieces of evidence, but officers are seeking help from anyone who may have "dash cam" video, witnessed the accident, or has any information regarding the driver's identity or whereabouts.
The police have urged individuals to come forward with any additional information that may assist in the investigation. If you have pertinent data, please contact the Hayward Police Department's Traffic Bureau at 510-293-7169 and reference case number 2023-50698.
