Yesterday, westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 580 near the Seminary exit in Oakland were temporarily closed following a shooting that left two people wounded. The incident unfolded in the afternoon and escalated quickly, with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) scrambling to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
Authorities found two individuals with gunshot wounds inside a black Chevrolet SUV. Both victims were quickly transported to a local hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. The CHP spokesman, Andrew Barclay, announced that another vehicle traveling on the eastbound side of the freeway was also struck by a stray bullet, although, fortunately, no one was injured. The shooting prompted an investigation which led to the closure of all westbound lanes of I-580 for approximately 40 minutes that afternoon, as reported by KTVU.
CHP units were dispatched to the scene soon after the incident, originally responding to reports that two vehicles, a black Chevrolet SUV and a black Mercedes SUV, were stopped on the freeway near the Seminary Avenue exit. It was initially believed that both vehicles were involved in the shooting; however, CHP spokesman Barclay later clarified that the black Mercedes SUV was unrelated to the incident.
