As Fremont continues to transform its landscape, residents are advised to prepare for upcoming road closures and disruptions in the coming months.

According to Fremont PD, the Niles Canyon Stroll & Roll is scheduled for September 23. This popular event will result in the closure of a stretch of Niles Canyon Road from approximately 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as it transforms into a haven for bicyclists and pedestrians. There will be road closures on the Fremont Side, Sunol Side, and Palomares. Attendees will have access to free parking and shuttle services from designated lots on both sides of the event.

Fremont Police Department, urge attendees to leave their backpacks and large bags at home, as all bags are subject to search. In addition, the use of drones is prohibited over the event area. Always being aware of one's surroundings and reporting suspicious activities is encouraged to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

In addition to the Niles Canyon Stroll & Roll event, a significant rehabilitation project is set to begin on Interstate 880. This will take place from October 2023 to December 2025. Caltrans plans to provide a smoother ride for motorists in Fremont and Newark. The scope of the project includes fixing potholes, deteriorated roadway, and enhancing safety measures.

The work will primarily be conducted at night to minimize disruption to motorists on this heavily traveled corridor. Overnight lane closures will occur on both northbound and southbound I-880 lanes. The project will cover a total of 90 lane miles from Fremont Boulevard south to the Alameda County/Santa Clara County line.
