Yesterday, a press release from the Department of Justice announced that a Ludlow man, Robert Avrett, 42, was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years of supervised release for distributing and possessing child pornography.
Avrett was identified as the owner of a Kik messenger account, using which he shared numerous videos containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) with an undercover law enforcement agent. The material depicted the sexual exploitation of minor victims, some as young as approximately three-years-old.
Following a search of Avrett's residence on November 21, 2022, he admitted to being the operator of the Kik account and using it to share and receive CSAM according to the Department of Justice
Throughout the investigation, Avrett's actions and the ensuing legal proceedings moved swiftly. In March 2023, Avrett pleaded guilty to distribution and possession of child pornography. As WWLP reported earlier, the initial charges against Avrett carried a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 if found guilty.
