On Saturday, officers received an alert from a Flock camera, sighting a stolen Ford Econoline Van driving northbound on San Pablo Ave at Tsushima. According to the Hercules Police Department's post, officers spotted the vehicle parked in a Safeway parking lot as the subject was exiting the car. Moments later, the officers initiated a high-risk stop, but the subject fled on foot into a forested area across from Safeway, forcing them to engage in a chase to apprehend him.
In the pursuit, a responding officer intercepted the subject heading towards a creek area, and found him unresponsive to lawful commands. During the standoff, the subject assumed an aggressive stance against the officer, prompting further caution. The officer then noticed the subject's hunting knife concealed in his waistband, further escalating the situation.
The officer deployed his taser, but the subject still attempted to flee until another officer arrived, finally detaining him. As it turned out, the suspect was on parole for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, exhibiting a pattern of criminal behavior still at large amongst the population.
Ultimately, the subject was taken to the hospital, later transported to jail, while the stolen vehicle was removed from the scene.
