Early yesterday, the Coast Guard Sector San Diego responded to a distress call emanating from a charter fishing vessel located approximately 40 miles west of Point Loma. According to a press release by the U.S. Coast Guard, the distress call from the fishing vessel, Ranger 85, came through at around 3:30 a.m., with the vessel's crewmember reporting a medical emergency due to a laceration and subsequent bleeding.
This distressing situation was further compounded as the injured 68-year-old man was reported to have elevated blood pressure. Given the severity of the situation and the man's urgent need for a higher level of medical care, Coast Guard Air Station San Diego wasted no time in launching their MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to support. Arriving on the scene, the helicopter crew managed to hoist the injured man aboard and transported him back to Coast Guard Sector San Diego, where he was then handed over to awaiting EMS personnel for further treatment. The man was reported to be in stable condition following the quick action by the Coast Guard.
