Earlier today, the residents of a cul-de-sac in South Bay awoke to a startling scene as a house fire broke out, leaving a man with severe burns and a firefighter with heat exhaustion.
According to Fox 5 San Diego report, the fire, which began just before 5 a.m. on the 1800 block of Loyola Court, was contained primarily to the garage area. Nevertheless, several portions of the home sustained damage in the blaze. As the Chula Vista Fire Department fought tirelessly to quell the inferno, the occupants of the residence were forced to evacuate, leaving one man with burns covering approximately 40% of his body.
The injured resident and the firefighter, who suffered from minor heat exhaustion, were both transported to a local hospital for treatment as per the Chula Vista Fire Department Twitter post. The garage housed an arsenal of ammunition and Li-ion batteries, prompting an investigation into the exact cause of the fire that may reveal broader concerns surrounding household dangers.
