In the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, a seemingly unremarkable traffic stop by the Cooks County Sheriff's Police resulted in a potentially significant discovery.
Late last Thursday night, on August 31, officers pulled over a vehicle that had driven through a stop sign, only to uncover a loaded firearm that had previously been reported as stolen out of Chicago, according to the Cooks County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the vehicle was found to be operating on a revoked driver's license, prompting the Sheriff's Police to search the vehicle at which time, officers located a loaded firearm with the troubling past.
Both the driver and the passenger lacked valid Firearm Owner's Identification cards (FOID) or Concealed Carry Licenses (CCL), with both individuals claiming that the firearm belonged to the other. In response, felony charges were approved.
