A series of chilling robberies and sexual assaults took place between June and July 2023, leaving behind various forms of devastation in the South and Far South Sides of Chicago. The offender, Justin Deloney, a 36-year-old Calumet City man, was apprehended on Sunday, and subsequently charged with multiple felony counts, including robbery and criminal sexual assault, according to Chicago Police Department.
The trail of Deloney's crimes began on June 2, 2023, in the Gresham neighborhood, where he allegedly robbed a 44-year-old woman of her property in the 2300 block of East 79th Street. About a month later, on July 9, 2023, Chicago PD suspect he struck again in Roseland, targeting a 58-year-old woman in the 400 block of West 113th Street. His final reported robbery was committed against a 45-year-old woman in the Fernwood neighborhood on July 18, 2023, in the 10200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, as Fox 32 Chicago reported.
However, Deloney's criminal activities escalated, becoming even more crazed. In the midst of these robberies, he also committed two armed sexual assaults against defenseless women. The first assault occurred on June 25, 2023, in the West Pullman neighborhood, targeting a 47-year-old woman in the 12300 block of South Emerald Avenue. The second assault took place on July 10, 2023, on South Lyon Avenue, where Deloney sexually assaulted a 34-year-old woman, according to CBS News Chicago.
Deloney was charged with two felony counts of aggravated armed robbery, one felony count of robbery, and two felony counts of criminal sexual assault, with his court appearance scheduled for September 6.
