A carjacking took place this Sunday in the Whispering Oaks area of Castro Valley, when the victim found himself confronted by three Hispanic males, one of whom was armed with a black firearm. In the interest of his safety, the victim relinquished his vehicle, allowing the suspects to flee the scene. The ACSO promptly initiated an investigation, eventually locating the stolen vehicle in the nearby City of Oakland.
While the ACSO deputies attempted a high-risk traffic stop, the suspects continued to flee, driving at high speeds. Deputies pursued the suspects for over five miles before terminating the chase to uphold public safety, and allowing the OPD to provide air support.
Shortly after, the suspects crashed the vehicle into a parked car, abandoning it and attempting to evade capture on foot. Through the combined efforts of the ACSO's ground team and the OPD's air unit, authorities were able to apprehend all three suspects, along with a fourth related individual, on 50th Avenue near Bancroft Avenue without further incident, as the ACSO reported.
Additional evidence was found during a sweep of the area: an ACSO K9 discovered a black 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun, wrapped in a sweatshirt and hidden under a vehicle near the location where the suspects were detained. The weapon was later confirmed to be stolen from the City of Oakland.
Among those arrested were 18-year-old Angel Aguilar Lopez from Oakland and three juvenile suspects, with one having prior offenses for carjacking and robbery. Lopez was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on multiple charges, while the juveniles faced similar consequences at the Juvenile Justice Center.
Fortunately, the victim involved in this carjacking incident was not physically harmed.
