An unsettling series of events took place at a 7-Eleven store on 5th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland, where a dead body was discovered on the sidewalk outside the store. Adding to the disturbing scene, this came hours after a daring robbery had occurred inside the store just the night before. It was a distressing situation for employees and residents in the area, with authorities working to resolve both cases.
Oakland police arrived at the scene on Monday morning following reports of a deceased person on a mattress outside the store. Surveillance footage from around 4 a.m. captured some movement near the mattress, and the authorities investigated whether the body had been dumped at this location. This discovery rattled the employees at the store, already coping with the robbery the night before.
As KTVU reported, the robbery took place at about 6:10 p.m. on Sunday evening, when a Honda Accord pulled up outside the 7-Eleven store. Four young men quickly entered the store and, in a rapid operation, looted it of nearly $10,000 worth of cigarettes and tobacco products. The security footage captured one robber taking the entire cash register, containing approximately $1,000 in cash. Within a minute, the culprits fled the store in the Honda.
On the other side, residents in the area responded to these events with mixed emotions. A Twitter report from Henry K. Lee highlighted that while store employees were frightened by the back-to-back police presence, a nearby resident named William Peper expressed his appreciation for their efforts. He said, "We need the police. Oakland can be a tough town, and they're doing their job and good I'm glad they're here."
