An unsettling confrontation took place in the canal area near Willow Pass Road and Diamond Blvd in Concord, California, leaving a sanitation worker rattled and authorities scrambling to keep the community safe yesterday. A man, found lurking in the canal, had aimed a firearm at the worker as he attempted to clean the vicinity.

The Concord Police Department's Communication Center quickly received a distressing call from the sanitation worker in response to the incident. Patrol officers and officers from the Community Impact Unit sprang into action, responding swiftly to the call according to the Concord Police Facebook post. The male suspect attempted to evade capture by fleeing the scene on foot, only to be apprehended under a nearby bridge after an extensive search.

In a press release, the Concord Police Department reported that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the area resulted in the discovery of an unregistered shotgun that the suspect had discarded during his attempted escape. The authorities later identified this weapon as the one wielded in the initial encounter with the sanitation worker. The male was subsequently arrested on various felony firearm-related charges before being sent to the Martinez Detention Facility.
