On September 1, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakland units responded to an unnerving call. At 02:06 a.m., they swiftly arrived at the scene of a traffic crash on eastbound Interstate 80 (I-80), east of University Avenue. Police officers discovered an unregistered loaded firearm during their investigation, as reported by the CHP Oakland's Facebook page.
As officers examined the scene and began to piece together the details of the crash, an unsettling possibility emerged—the suspected driver, whom was confirmed under the influence of alcohol, was reportedly in possession of the illegal firearm. This revelation elevated the severity of the incident and ultimately resulted in the driver's arrest on multiple charges related to weapons and DUI.
This incident showcases the CHP's commitment to providing the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security, as noted in their mission statement.
