As Chicago prepares for the 45th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, October 8, 2023, street closures and transit service amendments have begun, as reported by NBC Chicago.
Balbo Drive had been already closed from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive, as of 10 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd. It will stay closed until the end of the marathon. Over 40 parking and street closures have been planned for race day itself, and more could follow upon the discretion of safety officials.
Chicago Sun-Times have reported that in its attempt to to accommodate transportation, Metra has ramped up service on various lines. Also, some South Shore Line trains to McCormick Place will start hauling runners on Thursday, for the marathon's Health and Fitness Expo.
Although specific details aren't available, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is set to augment its services as well. Owing to the myriad of street closures and restrictions in place over the event's duration, attendees are urged to pivot toward public transportation.
While the Bank of America Chicago Marathon indeed ushers in an electrifying athletic event, it also fosters a deep sense of community spirit. With plenty of changes to their routine, residents and visitors should keep abreast of the latest updates to truly enjoy this significant event.
