During the Chicago Marathon earlier today, Boston runner Sarah Bohan temporarily traded in her competitive streak for compassionate action. Approximately 21 miles in, Bohan noticed a frightened kitten stranded along the course, as related by Boston.com.
Bohan, rather than pressing on, stopped running to help the small, terrified creature. Along with race participant Gia Nigro, she comforted the kitten and carried it for a mile, until they found a willing bystander to get the animal to a veterinarian, details an article on Boston.com. Despite their unexpected detour, both Bohan and Nigro completed the race.
The act to care for the stray kitten is in keeping with Bohan's philanthropic endeavors. She ran the marathon as a member of Team PAWS Chicago, a non-profit animal rescue organization. Beyond her fondness for animals, Bohan to support and care for people professionally works as a social worker at Boston Children's Hospital MassLive reports.
