On September 2, a female suspect reportedly had a gun confrontation with Chicago police officers within the East Side neighborhood. The suspect succeeded in escaping, FOX 32 Chicago asserts. The recent unveiling of the related body cam footage has revealed inconsistencies in the original report.
Initially, it was reported that officers encountered a man and a woman during a response to a call about an individual with a firearm. Allegedly, the female discharged her weapon at the officers, who retaliated but did not injure anyone. The woman fled, and a community street camera apparently captured her disappearance into an alley. The officers discovered a firearm at the incident site, but the unidentified woman remains elusive.
The recently released footage, however, provides an alternate narrative. An officer is heard instructing the suspect to reveal her hands but receives no cooperation. The officers also seemingly missed any targets while returning fire, contradicting earlier reports that the woman fired at officers, as reported by Cairns Post.
The male suspect was briefly held for questioning before his release. The implicated officers were brought to a local hospital for cautionary measures.
The ongoing investigation is conducted by COPA (Civilian Office of Police Accountability) which has made the incident report and associated videos accessible to the public.
