In the neighborhood of unincorporated Round Lake, a significant incident occurred yesterday, October 18. A Lake County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man brandishing a meat cleaver. According to the Chicago Sun-TImes, the sheriff's office was initially alerted by a distraught 911 call saying that her friend's relative may have committed suicide. They responded to the residence  in 34200 block of Barberry Court.

Upon arriving at the Barberry Court residence, deputies immediately spotted a man unconscious on a living room mattress. The scene included an open pool of blood and a seemingly abandoned meat cleaver. Without hesitation, the attending deputy began administering medical aid, but was abruptly interrupted as the man regained consciousness and attacked with the cleaver.

The responding deputy, to protect his life, shot the man, who later died from his injuries at a local hospital. This account was corroborated by NBC Chicago, which also mentioned that despite the threat to their safety, all present law enforcement and medical professionals tried unsuccessfully to save the man's life.

The pressing investigation by The Lake County Major Crime Task Force remains ongoing.
