Yesterday, residents of East Boston had a chance to connect with their local police department. The Community Service Office of District A-7 launched a BPD hockey skills program at the Porrazzo Rink as part of their community engagement efforts, according to the Boston Police Department.
To test their skills, new players are enrolling in the program every week. This highlights the role of sports in creating unity and camaraderie beyond the traditional community-law enforcement boundaries.
District A-7 officers, known for community involvement, are now planning to cooperate with a learn-to-skate program. This partnership is part of an inclusive approach for participants of all skill levels, providing an opportunity for them to learn hockey and build relationships with the police force.
Earlier this year, BPD launched several community-building initiatives ranging from neighborhood cleanups to their support for the East Boston High School graduating class. These demonstrate their dedication to not only reduce crime but to positively impact local community life.
