The South San Francisco Fire Department, collaborating with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), to encourage the Fire Prevention Week campaign "Cooking Safety Starts with You. Pay Attention to Fire Prevention.™." The NFPA, a longtime sponsor of Fire Prevention Week™, aims to heighten awareness around the importance of taking precautions while cooking, to ensure personal and collective safety.
The Farmers' Market attendees will have the chance by the Fire Department's booth to learn about fire prevention in cooking. This knowledge is increasingly relevant as more people cook at home due to the pandemic.
In addition to fire safety education, the El Concilio of San Mateo County (ECSMC), a community-based non-profit organization will be present at the market. The ECSMC's mission, geared to reduce racial and ethnic health and education disparities by boosting access to quality-of-life services for underserved communities in San Mateo County, serves a diverse demographic including low-income, non/limited English-speaking people, and vulnerable populations.
