Earlier today, a fatal traffic accident occurred on the Stevenson Expressway in Chicago. The 31-year-old driver from south suburban Summit, who was operating a Honda HR-V, was pronounced dead at the scene as his vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck south of Harlem Avenue on the I-55 expressway. The man's identity has not been made public.
There were no reported injuries to any other individuals on the scene, according to Chicago Sun-Times.
Initial reports from Illinois State Police believe to suggest that excessive speeding may have played a key role in the incident. Information provided by Trooper Melissa Albert-Lopez and an Illinois State Police Master Sergeant underscored the inherent perils of reckless driving. The I-55 expressway was temporarily shut down, but returned to normal by 8:30 a.m. after the outbound lanes were reopened between Harlem and Central avenues, per ABC7 Chicago.
