As Fremont gears up for the much-awaited Gurdwara Diwali event set for Sunday, November 12, authorities have alerted the public about certain road closures for attendees' safety and convenience.
The notice from the Fremont Police Department states that from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., Gurdwara Road between Grau and Mission Blvd. will experience partial closure. Also, left turns will not be permitted onto Mission Blvd. from Gurdwara Road and vice versa. As a solution to potential traffic, a shuttle service will be operational, ferrying participants from Gurdwara Sahib to a designated parking area at 7th Street, Union City.
While encouraging participation in the Gurdwara Diwali event, it is important to respect the rules laid out by the Gurdwara Sahib and the City of Fremont. These include a total ban on alcohol, meat, and smoke, as well as a requirement for head scarves within Gurdwara premises. The City of Fremont's ban on fireworks should be followed, and no fireworks will be allowed at the event. More details can be found on the official Gurdwara Sahib website.
Considering recent global incidents, the police department's advice is to remain alert and report any suspicious activities promptly at public gatherings. Confronting suspicious individuals is not advised, however, in non-emergencies, citizens can utilise the TEXT-A-TIP service by texting "TIP FREMONTPD" followed by their message to 888-777 or contacting the police directly. In emergencies or ongoing crimes, dial 9-1-1.
