The Fremont Police Department recently apprehended several juveniles in relation to two separate carjacking incidents.

In an incident update released by the Fremont Police Department, yesterday, officers responded to an armed carjacking attempt on Sundale Dr. and Wall Co. The suspects fled to a nearby apartment complex after their unsuccessful carjacking attempt and were later detained without incident, one was found carrying a BB gun. An elementary school in close proximity activated precautionary safety protocols during the ongoing police operation.

Simultaneously, law enforcement responded to a lead on another carjacked vehicle, which had been reported missing from a carjacking at the Gateway Plaza Shopping Center on Monday. Officers tried to swirl it to stop near Sundale Dr. and Hilo St., sparking a brief chase. A passenger fled from the carjacked vehicle and remains on the loose. The expedition ended at a nearby elementary school, causing another “shelter in place” to be activated. The vehicle's two fleeing passengers were apprehended and all four suspects from both incidents are being held at the Alameda County Juvenile Detention Facility.

A comprehensive strategy to combat youth crime and ensure the safety of young people must involve law enforcement, schools, community groups, and families. The Fremont Police Department currently liaises with the School Resource Officer (SRO) unit and Fremont Unified School District personnel on security measures.
