Earlier today, an incident occurred in Cicero, Illinois, where a man suspected of abducting his 3-year-old daughter initiated a police chase through southern Chicago suburbs. When the suspect's vehicle was spotted on the eastbound Interstate 80 at Interstate 355 near New Lenox at around 12:30 a.m., Will County sheriff's deputies commenced the pursuit. ABC7 Chicago reported that the Illinois State Police joined the chase of the green Dodge pickup shortly after.
The pursuit led to the Dan Ryan Expressway where the suspect, with the child still in the vehicle, drove along a risky urban route. The suspect eventually exited the expressway at 31st Street on Chicago's South Side, subsequently crashing near 31st and Poplar Avenue. He was later put under arrest in Bridgeport. According to CBS News, the young girl was found unharmed and was returned to her mother after being checked by paramedics.
Authorities discovered that parental abduction was the incident's root cause. Prior to the chase at around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, Cicero police received a report that a 3-year-old girl had been abducted by her father in the 5000-block of 29th Street. The mother recounted to police that her ex-boyfriend and father, the two daughters aged 5 and 3, broke into her house and took the younger daughter. Fortunately, neither child was harmed during this event. There was an existing order of protection against the father, alluding to a history of domestic issues. The suspect's identity remains undisclosed while the investigation, currently no charges have been filed, continues.
