- From October 16 to 19, the Illinois State Police (ISP) took prompt action in a crime enforcement operation, confiscating nine firearms and 50 kilos of cocaine in Douglas and Logan counties. The firearms were reportedly being transported to a known gang member in the Chicagoland area, while the cocaine was found concealed in a semi-trailer.
The ISP's initiative to suppress criminal activity includes multi-faceted approaches such as air reconnaissance, forensic support, heightened patrols, and data sharing. ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly indicated that through these targeted operations on the interstates, the ISP aims to interdict the transport and trade of illicit substances and firearms.
Over the course of the operation, authorities issued 214 traffic warnings and made five arrests. They also logged two Scott's Law violations and conducted 51 motor to carrier safely inspect.
Based on a press release, the ISP will continue mobilizing all resources at its disposal to combat violent crime, thereby sending a powerful deterrent message to potential criminals in Illinois.
