However, the passing Toyota Sequoia, driven by 62-year-old Dwayne Samuel, failed to slow down hit the patrol car's rear. Resultantly, the trooper sustained non-critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Samuel was found uninjured and was cited for Scott's Law violation and driving an uninsured vehicle.
This accident is the 15th of its kind linked to the Move Over Law in Illinois in 2023 alone. The previous year had seen a total of 23 such accidents, causing injuries to eight troopers.
