Actor Jussie Smollett has reportedly entered rehab, following a series of personal and legal struggles. As per the update from the Chicago Sun-Times, the 41-year-old former “Empire” star is now in an outpatient rehab clinic; however, the specifics of his conditions are not known.
Smollett's fame was elevated through his role as Jamal Lyon in the popular TV series 'Empire.' His reputation however, took a hit. The actor was accused of fabricating a 2019 hate crime near his home in Chicago. The issue garnered vast media coverage before it culminated into Smollett's conviction for lying to the police. The actor faced a 30-month probation sentence and a brief jail term.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Smollett awaits a ruling from the Illinois Appeals Court, which will pass a decision about his conviction. In the meantime, a representative for Smollett has released a statement to People Magazine, praising the actor’s decision to pursue rehab amidst his struggles.
The 2021 trial came along with claims by Abimbola "Bola" and Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo that they had supplied illegal substances to Smollett. This is reported by People Magazine.
Throughout trying times, Smollett received the support from his former co-stars, including Taraji P. Henson. As per the same People Magazine report, Henson conveys the sentiment of family and connection being pivotal in tackling challenges, especially those that come with fame.
