Massachusetts has ranked as the fifth safest state in the United States, according to a recently released WalletHub report, Boston25 News reports. This ranking, part of the 2023 Safest States in America list, was determined by an evaluation of several key safety indicators.
The report compared the 50 states across five different safety categories, which included but were not limited to indicators such as assaults per capita, losses from climate disasters per capita, and unemployment rates. Western Mass News reports Massachusetts particularly excelled in areas inspections of murders and non-negligent manslaughters per capita ranks 6th, fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel ranks 1st, bullying incidents rate ranks 5th, and the number of sex offenders per capita ranks 4th.
Moreover, Massachusetts' standing as a safe state isn't an anomaly; other New England states perform equally well. The top spots on WalletHub's list are also occupied by Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire, all from the region. Utah ranks fourth, while other top-ten states include Connecticut, Hawaii, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and Wyoming.
The success of these states in promoting safety, as noted by another Boston25 News article, not only shows progress but also paves the way for future enhancements.
