The Milpitas Police Department, partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will host the 25th National Prescription Drug Take Back event on October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event announced via a Facebook post by the Milpitas Police Department, aims to offer a secure, anonymous, and free service for the disposal of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Nationally, the DEA-sponsored drug take-back events have accumulated over 17 million pounds of prescription medications. The previous year's event alone collected a record 663,725 pounds of drugs. The initiative is primarily focused on preventing drug abuse, theft, and unintended poisoning through easy access to unused medications.

Prescription drugs, including over-the-counter medications, vape pens, and e-cigarettes, are accepted for disposal, given the batteries have been removed.

A separate sharps/syringe container will be also available at the event location, and this service is accessible around the year, as per the announcement.
