On Wednesday, October 18, the U.S. Attorney's Office sentenced Jacob Pangborn, a man from Nevada, to 77 months in prison and following that, three years supervised release for possession of ammunition and firearm as a felon according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Pangborn, possessing a record of multiple felony convictions in the state of Nevada, was prevented from entering the Rock Island Arsenal military installation in Illinois. Upon discovering his driver's license had been revoked, officers arrested him. There was a bagged 9mm pistol without serial number found underneath his seat during further investigation.
The conviction aligns with the ongoing fight against gun violence in the United States, under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which is a nationwide initiative that unites law enforcement agencies and communities in reducing violent crime and gun violence as well.
The violent crime reduction strategy of the Department of Justice was launched on May 26, 2021 to strengthen PSN. It aims to build trust in communities, support community-based organizations, set focused enforcement priorities, and measure results, as oer the U.S. Attorney's Office.
