Today, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office initiated the new Detox Program at the Maguire Correctional Facility Jail. This program hopes to give inmates dealing with addiction the necessary assistance to rehabilitate and decrease repeat incarcerations. In partnership with the County Correctional Health Department, they're implementing evidence-backed methods to transform lives and improve community safety.

The Detox Program has thus far provided roughly 682 incarcerated persons with support since its establishment, showing a steady rise in attendance from June to August. The program owes its success, largely to individually tailored treatment plans for each participant, thus allowing more accurate care throughout the detoxification process.

In addition to customized treatment plans, the Detox Program is also providing medically advanced detoxification. Through a supportive environment and extensive counseling services, inmates are helped to confront the contributing factors of their addiction, as well as develop sustainable coping strategies for ongoing recovery.

Introducing the Detox Program denotes a significant effort in addressing the fentanyl crisis in San Mateo County. Sheriff Christina Corpus takes pride in her program's role in combating drug addiction and promoting rehabilitation. According to a press release, she stated, "This groundbreaking Detox Program is a proud addition to our jail facility as we continue to combat the fentanyl crisis in our community."

County officials, including Darryl Liu, Mental Health Program Supervisor, expressed their support for the Detox Program. Liu, in the same press release, applauded the collaborative effort and presented the program as an encapsulation of San Mateo County’s steadfast commitment to finding unique solutions to the drug addiction crisis.
