As 2023 approaches its end, festivities for New Year's Eve are being transformed in Boston. Based on a report from NBC Boston, First Night Boston, the annual New Year's celebration, is relocated to City Hall Plaza due to ongoing reconstruction at Copley Square, the original venue.

Drawing in hundreds of thousands of attendees annually, First Night Boston represents the largest New Year's gathering in New England. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu views the venue change positively, stating, "City Hall Plaza was designed for events like First Night—opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate their love for Boston." The celebration is scheduled to begin at noon on December 31, 2023, and continue until 12:30 a.m. on January 1, 2024.

The event, as outlined by First Night Boston, will consist of numerous diverse attractions that suits all ages. These include live music, performances, ice sculptures, dancing, figure skating, and a laser and pyrotechnics display. Two separate fireworks shows are planned—one over Boston Common at 7:00 PM and the other at Boston Harbor at midnight.

Even though the main stage will to be located at City Hall Plaza, additional programming for the holiday will still take place at Boston Common and at various Back Bay area churches and hotels. Due to the lack of street parking availability on the night of the event, attendees are strongly advised to make use of public transit—specifically the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)—for their commute to and from First Night Boston. A range of MBTA lines, including the Green Line and Blue Line, among various bus lines, serve the City Hall area.

Admission to First Night Boston continues to remain free, thanks to the local donors' support. A comprehensive schedule of events and their respective locations will be made available as the day draws nearer, thus giving attendees the chance to tailor a New Year's Eve experience that suits their preferences.
