Today, a pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on Chicago's DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The Chicago Tribune reports that two individuals attempted to cross the road near the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 5:25 a.m., one of whom was struck by a southbound BMW X-3.
The victim was promptly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead. Chicago Sun-Times notes that the second pedestrian was not injured and the driver of the BMW, a 63-year-old man, was also taken to Northwestern Hospital due to panic symptoms.
The Chicago Sun-Times states that the pedestrians were not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. The Major Accident Investigation Unit will conduct an investigation to determine preventable measures for such tragedies in the future.
