On October 20, the Petaluma Police Department was alerted to threats found on a bathroom wall at Petaluma High School. According to the Petaluma Police Department the message stated: "Date: Monday 10/23/23 is the day I kill. I’m going to shoot up the school and my first person is…. So watch out Monday is your guys day." The threats specified two initial targets and mentioned a third student.
These threats, accompanied by derogatory language and death wishes, could be connected to an ongoing conflict among some students. School administrators and the Petaluma Police Department are working together to ensure campus safety.
As of yesterday, video evidence and other leads have been gathered, though no arrest has been made yet.
In light of this incident, both Petaluma City School staff and Petaluma Police will be more prevalent around the Petaluma High School campus. Authorities are urging those with information, particularly students, to contact the Petaluma Police Department or a member of the Petaluma High School faculty.
