On October 2, Destiny Deboe, 22, and Tyshawn Haywood, 21 were detained and charged, following an emergency response due to reports of a toddler's drowning in a bathtub in Rodeo, California. A second investigation, tragically, uncovered prolonged child abuse as the cause of death, indicating a far more grisly situation as per the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office. This horrific event places Deboe and Haywood in the Martinez Detention Facility under charges of murder, child abuse leading to death, and torture.
First responders' valiant efforts to revive the 2-year-old were in vain; the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Inquiring further into the incident, Contra Costa County Sheriff's detectives discovered that the toddler did not drown, but endured a constant infliction of abuse, as per their investigation.
The investigation further revealed a second child, also under Deboe and Haywood's care, showing exposure to life-threatening abuse. Consequently, with bail set at $1,070,000, both individuals remain in custody. District Attorney Diana Becton has stated openly to passionately seek justice for these criminal actions.
