Yesterday, University City High School science teacher, Sean Stevenson, was arrested by the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force and charged with Attempted Enticement of a Minor. The U.S. Attorney's Office released details about the arrest.
In an unrelated sex trafficking case, messages under review revealed Stevenson's alleged involvement. The 58-year-old teacher indicated a willingness to pay for sex with a minor. During an undercover operation, a law enforcement officer posed as a sex trafficker and negotiated a price of $140 with Stevenson for oral sex with a 16-year-old girl.
The arrest happened on the morning of October 24, when Stevenson tried to meet the undercover officer at an agreed location. He was found to have the exact amount of money in his vehicle, according to the press release.
Organizations such as the Polaris Project aim to combat sex trafficking. They offer resources, training, and support for victims. These advocacy groups play key roles in addressing the issue of sex trafficking.
Addressing this issue benefits from understanding and awareness. Schools and communities must educate their members about sexual exploitation, and online platforms should tighten restrictions to prevent the spreading of trafficking.
Any information related to Stevenson's alleged actions should be reported to the San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
