San Diego International Airport (SAN) is set to roll out the next phase of its New Terminal 1 project, introducing new entrances tomorrow. This project encompasses multiple upgrades encompassing food and beverage availability, retail, parking, and security procedures, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and streamlining operations, per the San Diego International Airport.
Passengers availing of Terminal 1 via N. Harbor Drive will need to adjust to the new entrance locations. For automobile operators moving westward, the new entrance will be nearer Liberator Way; an earlier location than the old entrance. Pedestrians would now have access to the airport through a path commencing near the intersection of N. Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive. Drivers have to be vigilant, observe the signage, and be prepared to share the road with construction machinery.
These new entrances are in place to ensure construction crews can continue unimpeded work on the New T1 Parking Plaza, slated for completion in late 2024. This five-story edifice will house 5,200 parking slots, marking a 750-space increase from the former Terminal 1 parking. Additionally, environmental sustainability is also important, with electric charging stations comprising ten percent of its total space.
The first construction phase of the New T1 is set to wrap up by late summer 2025. Both passengers and airport staff eagerly await the numerous enhancements coming to Terminal 1. Amid accelerating urban development and the push for smart city planning, projects such as this highlight the importance of adaptability and modern infrastructure integration into city landscapes.
