Zevulen Ebert, a resident of Skokie, has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery and two counts of hate crime due to his reported use of pepper spray during an October 22, protest NBC Chicago reports.
Instances such as these occurred during a "Solidarity with Israel" protest in Skokie, where nearly 200 counter-protesters arrived to voice their support for the Palestinian cause. Amid the heightened emotions, Ebert is alleged to have used his pepper spray, resulting in injuries to three individuals, one being a Chicago police officer Fox 32 Chicago reported.
As the event unfolded quickly, the Skokie police have asked for public cooperation, urging witnesses to provide any information related to crimes committed during the protest, in an effort to better understand the circumstances NBC Chicago reported.
