On Thursday, a tranquil morning in Joliet was shattered as a 33-year-old woman tumbled from her moped and was subsequently hit and dragged by a Jeep Wrangler. The woman, who remains unidentified, lost control of her Teyin Super R scooter before colliding with the Jeep driven by a 47-year-old local woman, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Shockingly, the Jeep driver appeared to be unaware of the accident she was involved in, only discovering the victim under her vehicle upon stopping. The unfortunate incident occurred around 5:35 am, when majority of the residents were still asleep.
Joliet police authorities, led by spokesman Dwayne English, according to Patch, were called to the scene at Theodore Street and Brighton Lane. An initial inquiry revealed the moped driver lost control, fell, and was subsequently dragged by the Jeep Wrangler to North River Road in Shorewood.
The critically injured woman was quickly rushed to Ascension's St. Joe's Hospital, where she battles for her life. Local police are currently investigating the accident and urging the public for any information, including possible surveillance footage.
