Heaven Taylor, a 16-year-old from Chicago, was fatally stabbed during a quarrel in the city's bustling Loop district, a tragic reminder of the violence our communities face as per a report by Hoodline.
An 18-year-old woman has since been reported to have turned herself in, assisted by a West Side pastor to authorities. She was then taken into custody without any complication as conveyed by Chicago Sun-Times. On the side of law enforcement, no charges have, as of yet, been announced leaving those touched by Taylor's loss expectant of justice.
The deadly incident took place on West Van Buren Street around 11:20 p.m. on October 4th, 2023. Responding to trouble at a nearby Taco Bell, officers received an alert informing them of the occurrence, with Taylor found at the scene, having suffered stab wounds to her chest amongst a violent crowd according to Chicago Sun-Times.
Tragedy further pervades as Taylor, just a teenager herself, was a young mother, her two-year-old son now without a mother. As written of her mother, Chalesia Clayton, in the Chicago Sun-Times, Taylor was a "lovable person" and a South Side UCAN Academy junior.
The heartrending tragedy has left Taylor's family to struggle the unbearable loss of a loved one, as well as the duty of raising Taylor's boy. Clayton, herself a victim of violence in Chicago, after losing her eldest son less than a year ago, told the Sun-Times "I just buried my oldest son last year — her older brother — and now I've got to bury my daughter this year. There's just too much violence out here."
