An October 13 single-vehicle accident near Cement Hill Road in Fairfield has taken an unexpected turn and is now being investigated as a homicide.
The victim, a 44-year-old man from Oakland, was found deceased at the scene after his pickup truck veered off the road and into several structures, reported Hoodline. While the exact timing of the accident is unclear, the concealed location of the vehicle delayed its discovery until the following morning.
Originally treated as a traffic accident by the Fairfield Police Traffic Unit and the Solano County Coroner's Office, the case was reclassified as a homicide investigation after autopsy results exposed a bullet in the victim's body, stated the Fairfield Police.
Based on the evidence reviewed, investigators have arrived at the conclusion that the man's death was due to a shooting, which caused the car accident. The Fairfield Police Department has yet to release further details to maintain the integrity of this ongoing investigation. Questions like whether the shooting was premeditated or spontaneous are yet to be clarified.
To help swiftly resolve this case, Fairfield Police have requested for witnesses to reach out to their Traffic Unit, recommending any media inquiries be addressed to the department's Public Information Officer, Jennifer Brantley, as per their directive.
